Maggy Hamel Metsos est une artiste en début de carrière établie à Montréal. Travaillant principalement dans une optique sculpturale, la pratique de Metsos est une négociation entre le singulier (le personnel) et le commun (le culturel). Elle s’intéresse aux mécanismes de réduction, d’expansion et d’abstraction présents dans le langage. Alors qu’elle mobilise le mot écrit dans sa pratique, elle fait usage de ces mêmes stratégies langagières dans ses propositions matérielles. Ses œuvres ont été exposées et collectées au Canada, en Allemagne et aux États-Unis. Caretakers, sa première exposition solo chez Eli Kerr a été suivie par une seconde exposition solo intitulée Whole Wide World. Ses expositions récentes comprennent O.W.M.B/ Shell 1 à Joe Project, Montréal, Life’s Marching Band à Pumice Raft, Toronto et My Whole World à Baader Meinhof (Omaha). Elle est la lauréate du Saunderson Prize, du BMO 1st Art Award et du programme d’ateliers Montréalais 2023-2026 de la Fonderie Darling.
Maggy Hamel Metsos is an emerging artist based in Montreal. Working primarily from a sculptural perspective, Metsos' practice is a negotiation between the singular (the personal) and the common (the cultural). She is interested in the mechanisms of reduction, expansion and abstraction present in language. While she mobilizes the written word in her practice, she makes use of these same linguistic strategies in her material proposals. Her work has been exhibited and collected in Canada, Germany and the United States. Caretakers, her first solo exhibition at Eli Kerr, was followed by a second solo show entitled Whole Wide World. Recent exhibitions include O.W.M.B/ Shell 1 at Joe Project, Montreal, Life's Marching Band at Pumice Raft, Toronto and My Whole World at Baader Meinhof (Omaha). She is the winner of the Saunderson Prize, the BMO 1st Art Award and the Darling Foundry's Montreal Workshop Program 2023-2026.
