Biographie
Simon S. Belleau (né en 1986) est un artiste et cinéaste basé à Rome, en Italie. Le travail de Belleau dans les domaines de la sculpture, de la vidéo, de l'installation et de la peinture emprunte aux tropes du théâtre et de la cinématographie. Les mécanismes qui définissent le théâtre et la politique sont souvent des catalyseurs dans son travail, avec un intérêt particulier pour les négociations qui se produisent entre le domaine visible du spectacle et ce qui est caché dans les coulisses. visible du spectacle et ce qui est caché dans les coulisses. Belleau a obtenu une maîtrise en arts plastiques à la School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Illinois) en 2015, où il a reçu la bourse Jacques et Natasha Gelman. Il est également l'un des neuf lauréats du programme Studio Montréal 2019-2023 de la Fonderie Darling. Entre 2019 et 2021, il a été artiste en résidence et chargé de cours au département de sculpture de l'Université Concordia.
Ses œuvres font partie de la collection du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal et du Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, du By Art Matters 天目里美术馆 à Hangzhou, ainsi que de nombreuses collections privées au Canada, aux États-Unis et en Europe et en Chine.

Belleau completed a MFA in studio arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois, in 2015, where he was the recipient of the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Fellowship. He is also one of the nine laureates of the Fonderie Darling’s 2019-2023 Montreal Studio Program. Between 2019 and 2021, he wa an Artist-in-Residence and Lecturer in Concordia University sculpture department.
