Jean-François Lauda is a painter living and working in Montreal.Through a distinctly intuitive approach, Lauda has develop his own painterly language where he moves between formats developing techniques and exploratory methodologies. His current paintings build and overlap compositions where many smaller collages and disparate pictorial spaces develop just as they disintegrate into subsequent layers. These marks can be indexed in relation to each other and within the whole painting, creating a palimpsestic surface that can continue to reveal itself as temporal experience over time.
Lauda has had institutional solo and two-person shows at Fonderie Darling and Fondation Guido Molinari (both Montreal). Forthcoming solo exhibitions exhibitions include Shoot The Lobster (New York) 2023. His work has been reviewed in Border Crossings, Art Forum, and Frieze. His work is in the collections of Hydro Québec, Prêt d’oeuvres d’art du Musée national des beaux arts du Québec, TD Bank, Scotiabank, National Bank of Canada. as well as numerous private collections in Canada, The United States, and Europe.
